Behind Podcast Season 2, Episode 10: Andy Hearnden & Katelyn Flood

Joining us is none other than the incredible Andy Cooks and Katelyn Flood. Andy’s journey is one of resilience, creativity, and a touch of serendipity. His channel began as an unexpected by-product of the COVID lockdowns. Like so many in the hospitality industry, Andy found himself suddenly out of work and stuck at home, with boredom quickly setting in. Instead of wallowing, he decided to pick up a camera and start filming himself making meals at home.

But there was one big catch: Andy was used to cooking in high-pressure commercial kitchens, so transitioning to the more modest setup of a home kitchen was a challenge in itself. With limited equipment, unfamiliar appliances, and an audience of... well, just himself at first, Andy embraced the process and made it work. What started as a simple way to keep himself occupied quickly turned into something much bigger.

Andy's partner Katelyn has also played a massive part in the success of the channel! Known as the infamous "Babe" in the series "Hey Babe, whats for dinner?", Katelyn's main role is the business side of things - she manages PR, Client relations, Sponsorship deals amongst others! Katelyn's background in PR has given her the perfect foundation to help the channel grow to an international audience. Katelyn also opens up about the bullying and hate she has received through the channel, and how she overcomes it.

Fast forward a few years, and Andy has built a global following of over 15 million across all platforms. He now has a dedicated full-time team helping bring his videos to life, a no-nonsense line of practical cookware designed with home cooks in mind, and a thriving business—all while still operating from his home. Andy has even cooked with Taika Waititi and Rita Ora in one of his videos!

Andy’s story is a testament to the power of adaptability, creativity, and staying true to yourself. During our recording, everyone in the room felt genuinely inspired by Andy and Katelyn’s story, their down-to-earth attitude, and passion for making cooking accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We walked away feeling motivated to pursue our own goals, and we hope that listening to this episode gives you that same spark of inspiration, please don't just be inspired, set goals for yourself and go get them!
