In this episode, we chat with Heidi Walker. Heidi is the co-owner and Managing Director of Walker Seafoods Australia (WSA), the nation's largest company specialising in wild-caught tuna and swordfish. Walker Seafoods is renowned for its Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified Yellowfin Tuna, Bigeye Tuna, Swordfish, and Albacore. Based in Mooloolaba, WSA manages the entire process, from unloading and processing to packaging, ensuring the highest quality export-grade product.
WSA operates five vessels and employs a dedicated team of six skippers, thirty-three crew members, a shore-based management team, including a Fishing Master, and a permanent processing/export team. Their premium seafood is supplied throughout Australia and exported fresh to the US, Japan, and Europe. Renowned chefs such as Tetsuya, Neil Perry, Josh Niland, and Matt Moran trust WSA for their exceptional seafood.
WSA's fishery, the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery (ETBF), is a Commonwealth Fishery managed by the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA). This partnership ensures the efficient management and sustainable use of Australia's Commonwealth fisheries resources, reflecting WSA's commitment to responsible and ethical practices.
